Presto Community

Presto is used in production at large scale within many well-respected companies, those of which contribute back to the open source community improving it for everyone. Such an open and collaborative environment has allowed Presto to become the robust and reliable technology it is today — proven to scale to thousands of nodes, hundreds of petabytes, and hundreds of concurrent users performing analytical queries. The Presto community, comprised of users, developers, and those alike, continues to drive Presto as the best distributed SQL-on-Anything query engine!

Presto was originally developed by Facebook as a means of scaling to the data size and performance demanded by their enterprise. In Fall 2012 a small team of four engineers at Facebook started working on Presto. By Spring 2013, the first version was successfully rolled out within Facebook. Later that year, Facebook open sourced Presto under the Apache License. Since then, the Presto community has thrived thanks to contributions from other companies such as Starburst, Teradata, Netflix, Airbnb, LinkedIn, and Uber.
